Completed: Indiviually
This is the film title we are going to use for our opening. Nicola first sketched a design which we looked over and discussed as a group. We then used this image for inspiration and created the film title on www.pixlr.com/photoeditor as we have used it before in this course (institution logo) and in our previous GCSE courses.
Nicola's draft can be found here: http://nicolaastleyasmedia.blogspot.com/2011/11/draft-of-creating-film-title.html
Method:
- We first went onto pixlr and got up a blank page
- Then we changed the background to black with the paint bucket tool
- We then used the text tool and typed in "The Black Apple"
- We then looked through the fonts and decided as a group to use the Chiller font.
- We changed the writing to the largest size it could go
- We then rasteurized the text layer
- We then went onto Google and found a photo of an Apple
- We then opened that photo on Pixlr by using the URL link
- Then we made a box around what part of the picture we wanted and cut it. We then pasted it on to the black background beneath the film title text.
- We then used the eraser tool to rub out the white background from the picture of the apple. We had to vary the brush tool sizes to make sure that we erased the white background accurately
- We then put the text layer on top of the layer of the apple image so that the text could be in front of the apple
- We then got the apple image into the right place and finished there.
Evaluation:
I think the title is effective because the fonts edges are jagged which could connotate to the audience that the character isn't what they seem to begin with and that they can be dangerous. Also the varying change in widths and lengths on the letters could suggest to the audience that the character is un-predictable and you'll never know what they're going to do next. The contrast between white and dark could symbolise to the audience that the main character will struggle between the good and evil part of her. The apple creates a clear link between the title and the film idea so hopefully the audience will pick up on this and be intrigued. The apple also creates an enigma as the film is called "The Black Apple" and the apple is red so the audience may wonder why the apple isn't black and wonder what the title refers to.
Overall, I think the film title is a success as it was easy to make, we were all involved in the making and it is effective in capturing the essense of our film.
